THE GLITTER OF ENCHANTMENT

Tourists and families will be enthralled with the fascinating legend of a beautiful princess whom the Sultan of Melaka wanted to marry. The Sultan could not keep up with her unreasonableness. She demanded a golden bridge to walk to Malacca from the mountain, a silver bridge for her to return from Malacca and a bowl of the Sultan’s young son amongst many other conditions. The Sultan could not bring himself to kill his son and was spurned. The princess eventually married a fierce warrior who everybody feared. He liked to tickle the princess’ ribs and one day in a fit of anger, the princess stabbed him in his heart with a needle and the warrior died. The princess fled to Mount Ophir and vowed that she would never ever look at another man in her life. Later, during a storm, the warrior’s boat was wrecked and formed the six islands off the coast of Malacca. As the rumors swirl around the jungle-capped mountain, ancient history opens its box of misty treasures to display that the mountain indeed has gold deposits that has attracted traders from China and Greece. As some swear by the fact that that the gold and silver bridges really existed and have been lost in the thick forests, the 14th century Chinese sailors who sailed through the Straits of Melaka called the mountain, ‘Kim Sua’ or the ‘Golden Mountain’. During the reign of the Majapahit Empire, the mountain was known as Mount Ophir or the ‘Mount from afar’ and means ‘Gunung Ledang’ in Malay. Excitehotels.com takes their guests through the shadows of the mysterious past to mesmerizing accommodations where they can rejuvenate in vibrant surroundings.
